OLED, namely organic light emitting diode (OLED), is also known as organic electron laser display (OLED). Since 2003, this display device has been widely used in MP3 players due to its characteristics of light weight and power saving. However, for DC and mobile phones, which belong to digital products, only engineering samples with OLED screens have been shown in some exhibitions before, and they have not entered the stage of practical application. However, OLED screen has many incomparable advantages compared with LCD.

OLED display technology is different from the traditional LCD display mode, without backlight, using very thin organic material coating and glass substrate, when there is an electric current passing through, these organic materials will emit light. Moreover, OLED display screen can be made lighter and thinner, OLED technology development (15 pieces) has a larger visual angle, and can significantly save power. At present, among the two major technology systems of OLED, the low molecular OLED technology is mastered by Japan, while the polymer pled and the so-called OEL of LG mobile phone are the system, while the technology and patents are mastered by CDT, a British technology company. Compared with the two technologies, it is still difficult to color pled products. However, low molecular OLEDs are easy to color.

To illustrate the structure of OLED, each OLED unit can be compared to a hamburger. The luminescent material is a vegetable sandwiched in the middle. Each OLED display unit can control the production of three different colors of light. Like LCD, OLED can be divided into active and passive. In passive mode, the cell selected by the row and column address is illuminated. In the active mode, there is a thin film transistor (TFT) behind the OLED unit, and the light-emitting unit is driven by the TFT. The passive OLED should have better performance than the active OLED.

OLED has the advantages of small thickness and light weight, better seismic performance, no fear of falling, large viewing angle, no distortion of picture even when viewed from a large angle of view, short response time, simple manufacturing process and low cost, higher luminous efficiency and lower energy consumption than LCD. It can be manufactured on different substrates and can be made into flexible displays.

The disadvantage of OLED is that its service life is shorter than that of LCD; it can not realize the mass production of large-size screen, so it is only suitable for portable digital products; it has the problem of insufficient color purity, and it is not easy to display bright and rich colors.
